Accidents Happen
Abby often will sing this cute little Elmo song she learned from a video, "Accidents happen. . . that's what they say. Accidents happen. . . every night or day. . . Accidents happen when you are awake or asleep." Imagine that with a little swing kind of tune to it. Well, the day before Thanksgiving our household had a MAJOR accident! YIKES! We are recovered now - mostly. . . but Hudson got up early (5:15am) and I got up with him. When Abby got up at 6am to use the bathroom, none of us were used to Hudson being up and running around already. Before we got the gate back up in her room he schizzied into her room and climbed up on her toy box shelf. He promptly took a big digger with a toy in his mouth and split his lip completely open from a 1/2 cm above his lip on the outside clear all the way through on the inside. The toy box was less than 12 inches from the ground. .. but the doctor thinks it was the toy in his mouth that did it more so than the actual height of his fall. His tumble severed all 4 layers of muscle in his lip but thankfully missed his nerve. We were in the emergency room by 6:20 am to find out that he would need to undergo reconstructive surgery of his upper lip by 10 something that morning. Poor little guy couldn't eat or drink and was pretty miserable for several days. As the swelling decreased he became more comfortable and today you would hardly even know he underwent such a terrible ordeal. Needless to say Thanksgiving was celebrated a bit different than we had planned. Ithink we are all still recovering from the emotional "emergency" aspect of his owie. Poor Abby had never seen so much blood before and was pretty traumatized by seeing her little brother in so much pain. He has been climbing things since he was 11 months old. He is fast and relentless in his climbing abilities. . . someday maybe he can put those skills to use for his own good instead of his harm but until then. . . we have re Hudson proofed the house and are utilizing gates/ doors/ and lots of other safety ware to keep our little linebacker safe!

Oh Tammy, how scary! Thank God it wasn't worse and that he's doing better. Hopefully he'll learn to stay a little lower to the ground.
Gina, I want to call you but don't have your stateside number. Can you email it to me? I have been thinking about you a ton recently and have been too busy to write an email! :)
